Watching "Cars" again...

and I forgot to mention the other great song in it - "Get Your Kicks on Route 66".

I am so going to drive Route 66 the first time I go to the states. (and don't you Americans dare tell me it's not as cool as it's supposed to be. Let me pretend.)

Hey Sumara,

I haven't driven on Route 66 at all, but I decided to walk along it as far as I could in a day and it's WONDERFULLY enlightening. You start out in downtown Chicago and go past the city's largest university and medical corridor, one of the poorest neighborhoods in the country (Lawndale) and into the suburbs. You pass through Cicero, onetime home of Capone and the mob, Berwyn with a large Czech and Mexican population, and into these weird industrial-residential suburbs with giant power grids and gravel pits. It is wild. And that's only in the first 15ish miles.

I think a lot of the badmouthing route 66 is because of nostalgia (ie. it isn't what it once was), and it *is* a lot poorer since the traffic is heaviest on expressways now. Still, very fascinating.
